Snyder County Release Meanings
A release is an event, not just a missing name. Snyder County does not publish an official online jail roster or a person-level recent-release list. Even if one existed, removal from a current list would not establish where someone went. A person may have returned to the community, moved to an outside county jail, entered Pennsylvania Department of Corrections custody, or been handed to a federal or immigration authority. The record from the agency that executed the event is the best proof of when that custodian let the person go.
Different records answer different questions. A jail event log can show when the person physically left. A bail order, sentencing entry, or Pennsylvania Parole Board Action can explain the legal reason. The current custodian or supervision record may show what followed. Snyder County released inmate research is strongest when at least two of those records agree on the person, event, and date.
| Event | What it means | Where to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or bail | The person leaves jail while the case and bail terms continue. | Jail exit record and UJS bail entries |
| Time served or expiration | The custodial term ends or is credited complete. | Sentence, calculation, and physical exit record |
| Parole | A state prisoner serves the remaining sentence under community supervision. | PA DOC supervised-individual result and Board Action |
| Probation | The court places or keeps the person under local community supervision. | Snyder County Adult Probation and the court order |
| Transfer or detainer pickup | The person leaves one building but remains in custody. | Receiving jail, PA DOC, BOP, USMS, or ICE |
| Dismissal or acquittal | The case may no longer support detention, though another hold may. | UJS docket plus the actual releasing agency |
Snyder County Release Record Fields
No public Snyder County field schema was found. A focused request should therefore name each existing record or field needed without claiming that every item must exist. Ask for the booking or admission record and the release or transfer event tied to the same person and date range. A photograph should be identified as a separate existing record. The agency may use a label such as discharge, transfer, movement, or release.
| Requested field | What it can show |
|---|---|
| Full identity and aliases | Whether the record belongs to the intended person |
| Booking or admission number | The link between intake and the later event |
| Admission date | When that custody period began |
| Release or transfer date and time | When the person left that custodian |
| Authority, reason, or type | The recorded basis for the movement |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether community release or continued custody followed |
| Booking photograph | An identity aid, not proof of present status |
The jail event and legal record should be read together. A docket may show bail or a time-served sentence without giving the precise door time. Likewise, an exit entry may state “released” even when another agency took custody. Ask the record holder to provide the field as recorded, including any destination code or receiving agency, instead of asking staff to draw a conclusion.
Request Snyder County Release Records
Start with possession. Snyder Corrections is the first contact for its admission, placement, and administrative movement trail. If Clinton, Columbia, Union, or SCI Mahanoy carried out the physical exit, that institution may possess the exit log and its own intake photograph. The Snyder County Sheriff open-records route reaches only records held by the Sheriff, such as certain transport, arrest, or warrant material. Sending every request to the Sheriff can delay the answer.
- Identify the person by full name, known aliases, date of birth if known, and the narrow booking or admission date range.
- Ask Snyder Corrections which facility held the person and which agency recorded the latest movement.
- Request existing admission, release, or transfer records, including date, time, authority, destination, and booking number.
- Send a second request to the receiving institution when it executed a later exit or created a separate booking record.
- Ask for electronic copies and a fee estimate before costs exceed a stated limit. Keep the request and response.
For Sheriff-held records, the Snyder County Sheriff Right-to-Know page names Chief Deputy Lucas Bingman as Open Records Officer. Requests may be sent to 9 West Market Street, P.O. Box 217, Middleburg, PA 17842; telephone 570-837-3311; fax 570-837-0168; or lbingman@snydercounty.org. Published hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The local Sheriff fee list states $0.25 per black-and-white page, $0.50 per color page, $5 for certification, and $25 per audio or video recording. Verify current charges before filing. Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know Law generally requires an agency response within five business days, subject to a valid extension under section 902. Redaction may apply to protected content, but section 706 calls for access to nonexempt portions when possible.
The official request page shows the local submission routes and fee information.
The screenshot helps route a Snyder County release-record request, but Corrections or an outside jail may be the proper custodian for booking and exit records.
Snyder Release Law and Retention
Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know Law, 65 P.S. sections 67.101 through 67.3104, supplies the agency-record access framework. Sections 301, 305, and 701 address access and the presumption structure. Sections 901 and 902 govern response timing and extensions. Exemptions can protect personal identification, safety, medical, criminal-investigation, and other material. A request should seek identifiable existing records rather than demand that an agency create a new explanation.
RTKL is not a retention law. The Office of Open Records retention guidance directs the question to the lawful schedule for the exact record series. No official online retention period was found for Snyder booking records, release logs, or photographs. Ask which county or Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission schedule governs. A prompt request matters because an agency cannot produce a record that was lawfully destroyed before the filing.
- Discharge
- Release from a custody or supervision status, as defined by the record.
- Time served
- A sentence or custodial term treated as completed with credited time.
- Detainer
- A request or authority that can keep a person held for another matter or agency.
- Expungement
- A court-authorized process that removes qualifying criminal-history information under law.
Missing Snyder Release Court Records
Pennsylvania Clean Slate, sealing, limited access, and expungement can remove a known case from public UJS Case Search. Sections 9122, 9122.1, and 9122.2 of Title 18 govern different forms of relief. A blank search is therefore ambiguous. It may reflect restricted access, a spelling or date error, the wrong court level, or a different county. It is not proof that no arrest, detention, or release occurred.
When a known Snyder docket is absent, consult the Clerk of Courts and the applicable public-access rules. Official staff can explain the record-access channel but cannot give legal advice. A copied photograph or old third-party entry does not replace a restricted official court record and should never be treated as a current custody report.
Note: A public docket can explain legal events, while only the releasing custodian can confirm the exact physical exit it recorded.
Where Snyder Releases Actually Happen
Snyder's custody model changed over time. A 2024 county cost analysis described a possible shift from the aging full-time prison toward booking, transport, and outside placement. That document was a proposal, not proof of completion. The later July 9, 2026 Prison Board agenda supplies the current snapshot: all 48 Snyder inmates counted there were held outside Snyder County, with 42 in Clinton County, three in Columbia County, two in Union County, and one at SCI Mahanoy.
That split makes the Snyder case location a poor shortcut to the release door. Snyder Corrections can identify the originating custody trail and receiving institution. The physical custodian can then confirm whether the person remained held, returned to Snyder, moved again, or entered the community. A transfer to SCI Mahanoy is state commitment, not community release. No official source establishes a fixed public release door, hour, family waiting place, property process, or weekend rule for this distributed model.
Note: Call before traveling because published visitation details are not records-office hours and do not establish where a release will occur.
Snyder County Release Count Limits
Prison Board records provide useful context without naming people. The July 2026 agenda reported 23 commitments and 25 releases for May and June combined. It also identified the four institutions then holding Snyder inmates. Those aggregate figures can point a search toward likely receiving facilities, but they cannot verify that a named person was released or explain whether a counted “release” was a community exit, transfer, or other movement.
The county's Prison Board agenda archive is best used as a custody map. Its meeting cadence and aggregate counts are not a rolling released-inmate feed.
Can Snyder Board Records Trace Releases?
Monthly Snyder County Prison Board material is a privacy-preserving map, not a person search. The records can name institutions, report how many Snyder prisoners each one holds, and show boarding costs without publishing inmate names. That makes an agenda useful when a caller does not yet know which outside facility may hold the physical custody record.
Use the latest agenda to form a question for Snyder Corrections, then confirm the named person's placement directly. The board record cannot show whether that person was among an aggregate release count. It also cannot distinguish a community discharge from an agency transfer without a person-level event record. Meeting records route the inquiry; they do not decide it.
Search Snyder County Released Inmates
Begin by classifying the custody. Snyder, a receiving county, PA DOC, BOP, ICE, and the courts each answer a different question. Record the date and source for each answer. Systems update at different times, and a movement can occur between calls.
- Call Snyder Corrections at 570-374-7912. Ask whether the person remains under Snyder authority and which institution handled the latest movement.
- If Clinton, Columbia, or Union County is named, ask that jail whether the person remains held, was released to the community, or transferred again.
- Search Snyder Magisterial District Judge and Common Pleas records in UJS Case Search for bail, disposition, sentence, and later orders.
- For state custody, search both sides of the PA DOC locator. A current supervised result with a Release Date supports release from state prison to supervision.
- Use PA SAVIN through VINELink for the correct person and preserve the exact event wording. Transfer, escape, and release are not interchangeable.
- Use BOP, ICE, the holding facility, or a formal agency request when the case involves federal or immigration custody.
- For a past event not resolved online, file a narrow request with the agency that possesses the release or transfer record.
Snyder State Release Offender Search
The official PA DOC Inmate and Department Supervised Individual Locator contains two current-status searches. Use the Inmate side for someone who may remain in state prison. If release onto state parole is plausible, switch to Department Supervised Individual. The tool says it is updated daily, but it does not promise a permanent archive after a person fully leaves DOC jurisdiction.
| Locator side | Useful search fields | Key result |
|---|---|---|
| Inmate | Inmate number, name, DOB, gender, committing county, location | Current location, identity, photo, minimum and maximum sentence dates |
| Supervised individual | Parole number, name, DOB, county, district office, release date | Release Date, supervision location, parole number, possible absconder warning |
Match the identifying details and open the full record. Minimum Sentence Date is the ordinary parole-eligibility point, not a promised exit. Maximum Sentence Date is the sentence-expiration boundary subject to lawful calculation. The supervised side's Release Date is evidence of a state-prison release into current DOC supervision, not final discharge from the sentence.
The official locator displays separate inmate and supervised-person search tabs.
The two-tab layout prevents a released state parolee from being confused with a person still held at SCI Mahanoy or another state institution.
Snyder Release Dockets at Two Levels
Snyder and Union Counties form Pennsylvania's 17th Judicial District. Snyder's two Magisterial District Judges handle citations and early criminal stages, including preliminary arraignments and hearings. Later criminal disposition and sentencing ordinarily appear in the Court of Common Pleas. A short detention can therefore leave its clearest public trail at the MDJ level, while a later sentence or final disposition appears at Common Pleas.
Search both court types with the name, county, dates, and docket number when available. Review bail entries, charges, disposition, sentencing, time-credit entries, and later orders. Court material can explain why detention should end, but a second case, detainer, federal pickup, or transfer can delay community release. Pair the docket with the exit record.
The Snyder County courts page explains the local MDJ and Common Pleas roles.
This local court split is why one missing docket level should never end the search for the legal basis of a Snyder release.
Snyder Release Alerts and Federal Checks
PA SAVIN through VINELink covers participating county jails, state prisons, and state parole. Select Pennsylvania, search for one offender by name, match the agency and identifiers, then read the event literally. Registration can provide phone, email, text, or app alerts as offered. It is an operational notice service, not a permanent archive. The Snyder District Attorney's Victim/Witness Program also provides a local layer for hearing, case-status, disposition, and sentencing notifications.
Federal custody requires different tools. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal Bureau of Prisons records and generally includes people released after 1982. ICE's Online Detainee Locator addresses current or recent immigration detention. USMS pretrial and transport custody may require the actual holding facility, federal docket, district contact, or FOIA. The Snyder correctional page's reference to U.S. Marshals prisoners does not make the county site a federal release locator.
Snyder Released Versus In Custody
Choose the system by the status being tested. A current roster or locator is built to show current jurisdiction. A historical release question needs an event record, a current supervision result, or a durable court record. No single negative result resolves every type of custody.
| Question | Best route | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Still under Snyder authority? | Snyder Corrections | The person may be physically housed elsewhere |
| Still in an outside county jail? | Clinton, Columbia, or Union facility | Its exit may lead to another custodian |
| Current state prison or parole status? | PA DOC locator | Not a permanent fully discharged archive |
| Why did the case permit release? | UJS docket and orders | Does not timestamp the jail door |
| Federal or ICE status? | BOP or ICE locator | Each covers only its own custody system |
| Past physical exit? | Releasing agency's record | Access and retention depend on the record |
Snyder County Release Facilities
The July 2026 county snapshot makes all five pages relevant to Snyder release tracing. Start with the county operation, then follow the placement Snyder reports. A state commitment uses PA DOC records, while a county boarding placement requires both Snyder's administrative trail and the receiving jail's physical event.
- Snyder County Correctional Facility: first contact for the Snyder booking, placement, and transfer trail.
- Clinton County Correctional Facility: primary receiving jail in the July 2026 count.
- Columbia County Prison: physical custodian for some Snyder placements.
- Union County Prison: receiving jail in the shared judicial-district area.
- State Correctional Institution at Mahanoy: PA DOC state custody, not a county-jail release path.
Monthly Prison Board agendas can identify receiving facilities, counts, and boarding context without personal names. Use them to route an inquiry, not to claim that any named person was released.
